IATA Workshop On Ground Operations In Baku, Azerbaijan (PHOTO)

In a collaborativeeffort to bolster safety and efficiency in aviation ground handlingoperations, the Interstate Aviation Council on Aviation and Use ofAirspace, in partnership with Silk Way West Airlines, recentlyconvened an International Air Transport Association workshop fromApril 22nd to 25th, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

The workshop, attended by approximately 50 aviation experts fromAzerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, KyrgyzRepublic, Georgia, Lithuania, the UK, the UAE, Egypt, Oman, Iraq,and Malaysia, served as a platform to delve into the challenges ofground handling. Discussions were not only centered around thelatest industry trends and innovations but also focused on theimportance of standardization and cooperation among airlines,Ground Handling Service Providers, and airports.

Ground handling operations, despite significant progress instandardization and technological advancements, remain inherentlycomplex. The complexity requires close cooperation and coordinationbetween all parties involved in the process and underscores thecrucial need for standardisation. Throughout the workshop, expertshighlighted the significance of uniform application of industrystandards, advocating for their adoption as a key enabler fordriving safety and efficiency.

IATA, a global leader in aviation standards, has been at theforefront of developing comprehensive guidelines and rules forground handling. These standards are contained in the AirportHandling Manual (AHM) and the IATA Ground Operations Manual (IGOM)which were developed in close coordination with airlines and groundhandling service providers and are subject to continuousenhancement. By adhering to these standards, aviation stakeholderscan ensure safe, consistent, reliable, and sustainable groundhandling operations.

The discussion also included the latest developments of the IATASafety Audit for Ground Operations - the key industry oversightprogram in the area of ground handling operations, alongsideinsights on modernization and automation of ground supportequipment, environmental sustainability, advancements in personneltraining principles, digital technologies in airport and airlinemanagement as well as safety and compliance of winteroperations.

As the workshop concluded, the resounding message was clear:Collaboration, adherence to industry standards, and continuousimprovement are essential for safer skies and efficient andsustainable ground operations.
