The opportunities for cooperationare diverse and promising. Bulgaria and Azerbaijan can explore thehuge potential of hydrogen as a clean and sustainable energycarrier. We are convinced that the joint efforts in the field ofresearch, development and application of hydrogen technologiescould not only contribute to energy security, but also contributeto global efforts to reduce carbon emissions," noted thesource.

The source went on to add that investment in RES is another keyarea for possible bilateral cooperation.

"By investing in the development of solar, wind and otherrenewable energy projects, the two countries can diversify theenergy mix, improve energy security and contribute to a moresustainable future. Infrastructure development is a key elementunderlying the success of energy cooperation. Investing in modernand efficient infrastructure, such as cross-border transmissionlines and energy storage facilities, can assist the smooth exchangeof energy resources between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. Strengtheningenergy connectivity also means strengthening regional stability andis the basis for additional economic growth," noted the source.

The source noted that Bulgaria wants to express gratitude forthe existing reliable relations between the two countries, whichare already stepping on an established partnership that can onlyencourage future joint projects and endeavors.

"The satisfaction derived from this reliable relationship servesas a solid foundation for entering new and mutually beneficialareas of cooperation," added the source.

The study, conducted by consulting firm Advisian with thesupport of the EBRD, highlights Azerbaijan's significant potentialto fulfill the demand for low-carbon hydrogen, particularly inestablished downstream ammonia and methanol markets. Leveraging itsextensive natural gas distribution systems, which can be adaptedfor hydrogen use, Azerbaijan stands poised to play a pivotal rolein decarbonizing these industries.

Benefiting from abundant renewable resources and direct accessto natural gas reservoirs such as those in the Shah Deniz field,Azerbaijan is strategically positioned to develop both green andblue hydrogen technologies. Moreover, the existing infrastructurefor natural gas supply, exemplified by the Southern Gas Corridor,offers avenues for hydrogen to be seamlessly integrated, includingthe possibility of blending with natural gas for exportpurposes.
