US forces relocate “stolen” Syrian oil to bases in Iraq

(MENAFN) A group of 56 tanks filled with "stolen" oil left illegitimately for U.S. bases in Iraq from Syria on Saturday, a Syrian news agency reported.

The convoy passed through the unauthorized Al-Mahmudiyah crossing in Syria's northeastern area of Hasakah to U.S. bases on Iraqi soil, the news agency stated, referring to the locals living close to the Syrian-Iraqi border.

It further illustrated that in the morning, another 34-vehicle convoy including sheltered vehicles, refrigerated vehicles, and large carriers, allegedly left U.S. bases in northern Syria's Jazira through the unlawful al-Walid crossing for U.S. bases in northern Iraq, not stipulating what the convoy passed.

The Syrian administration has frequently suspected the U.S. forces of "pillaging Syrian resources," a move that makes the financial struggles against the conflict-ridden nation even worse.

Farhan Jamil Abdullah, head of the administration-run Syrian Oil Company, stated in July 2023 that as a consequence of the U.S. sanctions and military presence in Syria, oil production by his firm had reduced from the previous 385,000 barrels per day to 15,000 barrels, whereas gas production had jumped from 30 million cubic meters per day to 10 million cubic meters.

The administration has lost command over most of the energy arena because of the U.S. presence in oil-rich regions in Syria's northern and eastern parts, Abdullah also noted.

Syrian Oil Minister Firas Hassan Kaddour stated on July 2023 that the U.S. presence in the nation had ran to financial damages of about 100 billion U.S. dollars in its energy segment.
