New Edition Of Book By Tunisian Launched At GHB Forum Image

São Paulo – Amid discussions about the halal market on Monday (23) at the Global Halal Brazil (GHB) Business Forum in São Paulo, a book break. The new edition of Brazilian Portuguese translation of The Muqaddimah: An Introduction to History by Ibn Khaldun was launched.

The monumental work, often translated as“Prolegomenon,” established the foundations of several fields of knowledge, including the philosophy of history, sociology, ethnography, and economics. The ideas and concepts presented by Tunisia's Ibn Khaldun continue to inspire and guide scholars, contributing to shape the knowledge on civilizations, social change, and the nature of history.

The original translation into Brazilian Portuguese was done by José Khoury and Angelina Khoury in 1957. The launch featured the honorary consul from Tunisia to São Paulo, Rubens Hannun, Tunisian Embassy in Brazil's diplomat Kaissar Khadhraoui, FAMBRAS Halal vice chairman Ali Zoghbi, and Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) president Osmar Chohfi.

Copies of the new edition were gifted to Paulo Penteado de Faria e Silva Neto, grandson of José and Angelina Khoury; Jamil Ibrahim Iskandar, professor of Arab Medieval Philosophy at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) and author of the preface of the new edition; and Marcelo Cipolla, responsible for revising and updating the translation of the book.

The GHB is supported by the International Halal Academy, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the Union of Arab Chambers, and the Arab League, and held in partnership with the Brazilian Federal Government, Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and ApexBrasil.
