Algeria Reports 80 Diphtheria Cases
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- The Algerian Ministry of health reported that 80 infections with diphtheria, including 16 lab-confirmed cases, were registered in southern city of Tamanrasset.
The majority of cases belong to foreign nationals who hadn't been vaccinated against the highly infectious disease, the ministry noted in a press release on Wednesday.
The health authorities adopted urgent measures to contain the outbreak of the respiratory disease, stepped up the awareness campaign, set up a crisis response unit and vaccinated nearly 10,100 foreigners, according to the statement. (end)
