Nearly 50 African countries attend second conference of Russia-Africa meeting

(MENAFN) In Saint Petersburg, nearly 50 African countries attended the second conference of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

The Russia conference was attended by around 20 chiefs of state or administration. Just 5 African nations weren't present at the July 27-28 gathering.

According to the Kremlin, the high rate of participation "confirms (Africans') desire to strengthen ties with our country, no matter the circumstances." The conference's principal focus was security, development, along with peace.

The chairman of the Zambia Socialist Party, Fred M'membe, informed Russian media that the United States had successfully discouraged several African politicians from visiting Russia. “Many people are being discouraged to come to Russia [by] those who want to dominate the world, those who think only their way is the way, the USA,” M'membe claimed.

“We know who our friends are and we have the right to choose our own friends. Nobody should be choosing friends for us. We are here today in Russia to demonstrate that,” he continued.
