RBK: Russia intends to improve production of passenger aircraft

(MENAFN) Business journal RBK in the current week cited premier Mikhail Mishustin as saying that Russia intends to increase manufacture of a passenger plane that may end up being a workhorse for Russian airlines.

Mishustin announced throughout his trip to an Aviation factory on Thursday that the government will devote approximately USD500 million to the development and manufacture of the Tupolev Tu-214.

A contemporary narrow-body twin-engine plane with a 6,500km range and 210 passenger seats is the Tu-214. The Tu-154, that saw the most widespread use in the Soviet Union as well as Russia from the 1960s until the early 2000s, was replaced by it when it was debuted in 1996.

Since the beginning of the Western sanctions connected to the Ukraine, Russia has been working to create a replacement for imported aircraft. The two biggest aircraft producers in the world, Boeing and Airbus, were compelled to stop offering parts, upkeep, and technical assistance to Russian airlines or maintenance businesses. According to the government, if properly maintained, the present imported aircraft will still be in use until 2030.
