Doha, Qatar: The Doha film Institute (DFI) has announced that the Fall 2023 grant cycle will commence on July 3, offering a unique opportunity for filmmakers, directors, and screenwriters to secure funding for their projects. The grant is open to individuals working on film, television, or web series.

According to the DFI website, the grants submission cycle will run from July 3 until July 12. Interested applicants can submit their applications via dohafilminstitute.com/financing, which provides comprehensive guidelines and instructions.

The programme offers both creative and financial assistance for short and feature-length films, catering to Qatari and international first- and second-time directors, as well as established Middle East and North Africa (MENA) directors. In addition, financial support is available for TV and web series, provided they meet the eligibility criteria set forth by the DFI.

The DFI offers two grant submission cycles every year. The Spring cycle, which opens in January, and the Fall cycle in July. This allows filmmakers to plan and prepare their projects, accordingly, aligning with their creative timelines and production schedules.

Specifically, MENA-based applicants are eligible for development, production, and post-production funding for feature-length projects. Short films are eligible for production funding only. Established MENA directors may apply for post-production funding for feature-length projects. Additionally, development funding is available to screenwriters from the MENA region for TV series, while production funding is available to MENA directors for web series.

Furthermore, first- and second-time non-MENA directors can also apply for post-production funding for feature-length films. The DFI aims to support emerging talent, encouraging innovative and diverse storytelling that resonates universally.

The Doha Film Institute Grants Programme seeks to identify new voices and cinematic talent while nurturing authentic storytelling.

The institute takes pride in supporting projects that push the boundaries of cinema and contribute to its evolution as an art form.

Meanwhile, the TV fiction and creative documentary series development grant aim to assist independent screenwriters and producers from the MENA region in developing original serialised content intended for international audiovisual markets. Simultaneously, the web fiction and creative documentary series grant supports independent directors and producers from the MENA region in financing the production of original serialised content for the web.
