Doha, Qatar: Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QS) is participating alongside its global counterparts in marking the World Accreditation Day, which falls on June 9 each year.

World Accreditation Day is an annual global event established by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), in a bid to promote the value of accreditation as a key factor for advancing global and national economy and as a mean to protect consumers.

The World Accreditation Day is marked this year under the slogan“Accreditation: Supporting the Future of Global Trade”, which highlights the role of accreditation in supporting United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals that were adopted in 2015. It also reflects the importance of accreditation in enhancing quality all around the world and trade facilitation of the global economy.

The slogan indicates the aim to find ways to adapt accreditation in the global economy, conform with advanced technology and provide understanding of consumer behaviour and the regulatory environment.

QS has stressed the importance of accreditation in guaranteeing consumer rights and encouraging confidence of individuals in the economic field and entities responsible for monitoring the markets; by accepting certificates and reports issued by accredited conformity assessment bodies in their various activities (granting Qatari quality mark, granting conformity certificate, clearance of restricted goods).

The regulations for registering private laboratories and certification bodies require accreditation systems recognised by ILAC and IAF as a condition for registration. Accreditation Department in the QS Quality and Conformity Department has been registering quality certification bodies and testing and calibration laboratories since 2019, with a number reaching more than 60.
