Iranian President Calls for Unity Among OPEC Members to Counter Western Division Tactics


(MENAFN) In a meeting held in Tehran, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi emphasized the crucial need for unity and solidarity among the members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to counteract the divisive tactics employed by Western nations. The president, accompanied by Oil Minister Javad Oji, conveyed his views during discussions with OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais.

President Raisi underscored the intentions of certain Western countries to sow division and discord among OPEC member nations as a means to further their own interests. He called upon OPEC members to strengthen their cohesion and prevent the realization of these divisive goals. Recognizing the importance of constructive cooperation among OPEC members, the president affirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently demonstrated a constructive approach towards the organization and expressed determination to enhance the level of cooperation.

Furthermore, President Raisi emphasized that OPEC was founded on the principles of supporting the rights of oil producers and preventing discrimination against them. He expressed his hope that OPEC, in its renewed phase of activity, would play a pivotal role in bringing stability to the oil market and fostering peace within the industry.

OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais, in the presence of the Iranian president and oil minister, acknowledged Iran's longstanding and valuable contributions to OPEC as one of its founding members. Al Ghais highlighted Iran's consistent record of meaningful and constructive cooperation with both the organization and its member countries. He emphasized that Iran, at both the ministerial and technical levels, has consistently worked towards strengthening the unity and solidarity among OPEC members.
