Erdogan Pledges Firm Action Against Terrorism for Turkey’s Security

(MENAFN) During an iftar dinner in southeastern Sanliurfa province on Sunday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged that Turkey would continue to take firm action against terrorism and would not permit any global or regional actor to jeopardize its security. According to the Turkish leader, terrorism is the most significant scourge that imperialists have ever inflicted on the nation. Erdogan emphasized that the country's national security begins beyond its borders and that it cannot have peace of mind if there is no peace in its region. He further stated that as long as terrorists in northern Syria and Iraq have air power, ground power, and asymmetric weapons, Turkey can never be safe.

Earlier on Sunday, Erdogan attended a ceremony in which he marked the groundbreaking of 897 post-earthquake houses and handed over keys for 659 houses and 61 shops. However, Erdogan's focus on terrorism underscored the ongoing security threats facing Turkey. The country has been engaged in a more than 35-year-long struggle against the PKK, a group recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and European Union. The PKK has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants, in its terror campaign against Turkey. PKK terrorists have hideouts in northern Iraq, across the Turkish border, which they use to plot attacks on Turkey. Erdogan's statements highlight the continued need for vigilance against terrorism and the importance of taking proactive measures to defend the country's security.
