Indian, South Korean Foreign Ministers Agree to Enhance Strategic Partnership

(MENAFN) The foreign ministers of India and South Korea have agreed to strengthen their "Special Strategic Partnership" and work closely together to tackle regional and global challenges. South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met on Friday in New Delhi, where they discussed a range of issues, including Political contacts, trade and investments, defense, science and technology, energy, space, semiconductors, emerging technologies, and cultural exchanges.

In a tweet, Park said the two countries had made steady progress in their relationship and agreed to take their partnership to the next level. He also hailed India as a key partner in advancing their common vision of a free, open, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific. With India playing a critical role as the G-20 President this year, both countries agreed to collaborate closely in addressing regional and global challenges.

Jaishankar also took to Twitter to express his satisfaction with the talks, noting the warm and wide-ranging conversation he had with Park. He said they discussed their perspectives on their neighborhoods, visions and policies in the Indo-Pacific, and the Ukraine conflict. The Indian foreign minister also emphasized the need for close cooperation on global and multilateral issues.

The visit by the South Korean foreign minister is part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Arindam Bagchi said the visit would strengthen their Special Strategic Partnership, which has grown in recent years to encompass a range of economic, political, and security ties.

During his visit to Delhi, Park also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the legendary Indian freedom fighter and international icon of peace and nonviolence, at Raj Ghat, a memorial dedicated to him. The visit underscores the deep cultural ties between the two countries and the importance of people-to-people exchanges in strengthening their strategic partnership.
