Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), HE Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, affirmed that Their Highnesses and Excellencies the foreign ministers of the GCC had sent a joint letter to US Secretary of State H E Antony Blinken which condemned the statements of the Israeli Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich in which he called for the destruction of the Palestinian village of Hawara and denied the existence of the Palestinian people.
His Excellency the Secretary General indicated that the letter embodies the position of their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries regarding the Palestinian cause, as it is the first cause of Arabs and Muslims, underlining what was stated in the final statement of the 155th session of the Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council, which was held on March 22, 2023, concerning the Cooperation Council's support for the sovereignty of the Palestinian people over all Palestinian lands occupied since June 1967, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Al Quds as its capital, guaranteeing all the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, and rejecting settlement in the occupied Palestinian lands.
His Excellency said that the letter praised the American position which rejects these statements, and called the United States of America to assume its responsibilities in responding to all measures and statements that target the Palestinian people, adding that it also urged the American administration to fulfil its role in reaching a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the conflict based on the principles of international law and the Arab Peace Initiative, including the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Al Quds as its capital.
His Excellency the Secretary General stressed the GCC's condemnation of the escalating Israeli statements and violations against the Palestinian people, including the crimes committed recently in the city and camp of Jenin, and in the towns of Hawara, Burin, Asira Al Qibliya and others, which claimed the lives of a number of martyrs and left dozens wounded, in addition to demolishing homes and properties as well as violating the sanctity of the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque, targeting the Palestinian presence in the city of Al Quds, and attempting to change its legal nature, demographic composition, and arrangements for Islamic holy places.
