Winners Of Sheikh Hamad Award For Translation And International Understanding Honoured

Doha: On behalf of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, H E Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani honoured the winners of 8th edition of Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding during a ceremony held at Ritz-Carlton Hotel yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs, Ministers, diplomats, and guests of writers, translators and researchers.

Muhyiddin Majid secured the first place in the category of translation from Arabic into Turkish for translating the book“Interpretation of Beyond Nature” by Ibn Rushd.
Muhammad Amin Mashali and Muntaha Mashali each got second place for translating the book“The Spirit of Modernity” by Taha Abdel Rahman, and in the second place (repeated) Numan Qawqli for translating the book“Intellectuals in Arab Civilization” by Muhammad Abed Al Jabri.

H E Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani; Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi; Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani; and other dignitaries at the awards ceremony in Doha yesterday.

Othman Baydar and Azjan Aqdag secured third place for translating the book“Dalalat al-Hareen” by Musa bin Maimon, and Soner Duman won the third place (repeated) for translating the book“Sharia Policy in Reforming the Shepherd and the Parish” by Ibn Taymiyyah.

In the category of translation from Turkish into Arabic, first place was won by Saleh Saadawi for translating the book“History of the Art of Calligraphy” by Muhyiddin Sirin, and third place came for Haval Duqmaq for translating the book“Modern, Civilized Barbarian” by Ibrahim Kalino, while the second place was withheld.

As for the category of translation from Arabic into English, the second place went to William Hutchence for translating the book“A Small Death” by Muhammad Hassan Alwan, and the third place went to Leary Price for translating the book“Al-Masha'ah” by Samar Yazbek, while the first place was withheld.

In the category of translation from English into Arabic, the second place was won by Muhammad Abdel Salam Hamshi for translating the book“Populism and Global Politics” by David McDonald and others. The book was issued by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies. The second place (repeated) was won by Ayman Haddad for translating the book Gaza: An Examination of Its Martyrdom by Norman Finkelstein.

Mustafa Muhammad Abdullah Qassem got third place for translating the book“The Open Sea” by Joseph Manning, and the third place (repeated) went to Amer Sheikhoni for translating the book“Theft from Muslims” by Diana Dark, while the first place was withheld in this category.

Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani also honoured winners of the award in the achievement category. It was won by the Arab Network for Research and Publishing from Lebanon in translation from English into Arabic and Ensan Yaynalari for their role in translating from Arabic into Turkish and vice versa.

The award was also won by translators Muhammad Hakki Sotshin and Burhan Koroglu from Turkey, Muhammad Harb, Abdullah Ahmed Ibrahim Al Azab (Egypt), Nicola Dobrishan and George Gregory from Romania, Ekhtiyar Balturi from Kazakhstan, Abdul Hai Al Kattani from Indonesia. In the dictionaries category of Bahasa language, Muhammad Mansoor Hamza won the award.

A number of encouragement awards were also given to each of the Association of Muslim Scholars in Tanzania, the Swahili language, Dar Al Karma (Egypt), the Tamer Institute for Community Education, and the Egyptian translator Ahmed Shukri Megahed.
