Kosovo desires Turkish drones for combat

(MENAFN) According to a representative of the ethnic Albanian-run administration in the secessionist Serbian region of Kosovo, Pristina is in talks with Ankara about purchasing Bayraktar attack drones. On Tuesday, Albania and Turkey announced their agreement to buy the identical UAVs.

Regional Development Minister Fikrim Damka made this statement to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, “the issue of combat unmanned aerial vehicles is on our agenda as well.”

Although he conceded that such a purchase would take time because "almost all the countries of the world" are interested in purchasing Bayraktar drones, he claimed that "there had been visits" and that the president and defense minister of Kosovo had really seen the UAVs.

Kosovo is a Serbian region that broke away and is now governed by ethnic Albanian rebels, who proclaimed their independence in 2008 with NATO's support. Following Edi Rama's announcement that he had secured a contract for a "fleet" of drones with the Turkish business Baykar Makina, Damka made his declaration.
