Japan Beat Spain As Both Progress To World Cup Last 16

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- Japan and Spain both reached the World Cup last 16 on Thursday as four-time winners Germany dropped out, despite winning their last match.
Japan's 2-1 scalping of the Spaniards, who posess one World Cup title, comes after the Samurai Blues earlier beat Germany.
Their progression sees them top Group E with six points from both wins - their only defeat coming at the hands of bottom-of-the-group, Costa Rica, who also exited the tournament - with Spain trailing in second place with four points.
Japan face 2018 World Cup Russia runners-up Croatia on Monday, as Spain look horns with Morocco the following day. (end)
