Zuckerberg "will own your eyeballs," Snowden issues warning

(MENAFN) The stock price of facebook parent firm Meta Platforms has plummeted after the company's earnings report on Wednesday fell short of expectations.

However, whistleblower and privacy advocate Edward Snowden has warned against prematurely celebrating the company's demise, claiming that it might yet rebound and represent a threat to society.

“Sure, laugh at Zuckerberg’s stock crash,” Snowden posted on Twitter, outlining that people should not forget that “in five years he’s gonna own your eyeballs and pause the ads every time you blink.”

This isn't the first time the NSA whistleblower, who now lives in Russia and has just received Russian citizenship, has criticized Facebook and its founder, Mark Zuckerberg, particularly in relation to his metaverse goals.

Snowden criticized Meta's VR/AR metaverse in August last year, accusing it of "stealing and repackaging" the VRchat concept and confining users in a "low-rez workspace" and "cutting off their legs."

While he thinks the notion of virtual reality conferences are going to be a “killer app,” Snowden argued that Zuckerberg’s company “has gone to extreme lengths to prove it cannot be trusted to respect the boundaries required for private meetings.”
