QU's CBE Celebrates Winners Of QSW Challenge

doha: believing in the importance of sustainability and in line with qatar national vision 2030, the college of business and economics (cbe) at qatar university (qu) initiated the 'consume responsibly' challenge, during qatar sustainability week (qsw) organised by earthna, a member of qatar foundation.

the main goal of the competition was to get students to think about a problem or idea related to sustainable behaviour, and suggest different solutions. 

the students were asked to submit creative posters (digital images) with innovative suggestions and solutions, and then propose a thorough action plan to put their ideas into practice. the competition was split in to seven main themes: waste management, green marketing, green accounting, food sustainability, e-financial business, economic sustainability, and digital business strategies.

over 300 students presented more than 117 projects covering the different themes. 

the competition was organised under the sponsorship of the abu issa holding company, and more specifically blue salon stores. ashraf abu issa, chairman of abu issa holding company, presented the winners with certificates of appreciation and valuable souvenirs related to the fifa world cup qatar 2022.

issa praised all the creative ideas that were submitted by the students and said that this indicates the knowledge maturity of qu's students in sustainability issues. 

he also assured that blue salon stays committed to support any university initiative towards sustainability.

the winning team from the male students who achieved first place, include nidal al dous, ibrahim al kuwari, ali al kaabi, and mohammed al marri, who presented a project related to the food sustainability theme. amna al modahaka, who presented a project related to the economic sustainability theme, won first place in the female category. awards were presented in the presence of eng meshal m al shamari, director of strategic initiatives and stakeholder engagement at earthna. 

dr. anas al bakri, professor of management and entrepreneurship at the college of business and economics and coordinator of the competition stressed that the significant number of participants reflects their interest on being creative and making an impact in society. 

dr. dalia farrag, professor of marketing and chair of the branding and visibility committee in the cbe, noted that the college is keen to organise similar initiatives to provide the students with different ways to express their thoughts and offer creative ideas to face these challenges.
