São Paulo – Brazilian businesspeople in the medical equipment industry had over 60 meetings during a mission to Egypt that finished on Wednesday (19). The mission was led by the Brazilian Medical Device Manufacturers Association (ABIMO), through its sectoral project Brazilian health Devices (BHD) carried out in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), and supported by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).

The activities started off on Sunday (16) with a seminar in the ABCC office in Cairo, Egypt. The event addressed the opportunities in Egypt's medical device market, partner entities and regulatory issues, in other words, what the companies must know in terms of compliance to get a registration in Egypt.

Brazilian businesspeople had over 60 meetings

The B2B meetings started on the same day and ran until Monday. The meetings featured 26 Arab firms in direct contact with the five Brazilian companies.“This brought many opportunities for the companies, both in actual business opportunities and better knowledge about the market. We had importers, distributors and representatives from hospitals in the meetings, which was great since many companies are focused on selling to hospitals,” said Karen Mizuta, head of International Consulting and the ABCC's innovation hub, ABCC Lab.

In addition to Mizuta, ABCC director and head of the office in Cairo, Michael Gamal, and other executives also gave support to and participated in the mission that promoted Brazilian products in Egypt's healthcare industry.

Mission included a technical visit

The businesspeople also had meetings with representatives of Egyptian entities like the General Authority for Investments (GAFI) and Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA).

In the last day of the mission, the Brazilians made a technical visit to the Suez Canal Economic Zone, which is home to manufacturing plants.“We visited a facility for the companies to understand the goals and how to establish in this hub. We visited the assembly line and learned about the benefits of being here and getting to know other markets. Once they have a manufacturing process in Egypt, the company has a product from there and can reach other markets, as Egypt has agreements with several countries,” Mizuta explained.

A meeting in the ABCC office in Cairo wrapped up the mission. The event was also attended by representatives from Brazil's Embassy in Cairo and ApexBrasil.
