Amir Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of Iran, and Mohammad Sadiq Khan, the Special Representative of Pakistan for Afghanistan, met and discussed the status quo and recent developments in Afghanistan.
According to a newsletter released by Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released on Tuesday night, both parties have placed a strong emphasis on enhancing their mutual cooperation with regard to regional security.
According to Amir Abdollahian, Tehran will host an extraordinary gathering of the foreign ministers of the countries that border Afghanistan in an effort to find a solution for the repatriation of Afghan refugees.
There are currently 4.5 million Afghan citizens living in Iran, of whom 1.5 million migrated after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, according to the Iranian Foreign Minister.
“Iran will use all its capacities to establish peace and tranquility in Afghanistan,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated on its official Twitter page.
The meeting's focus on regional security was instead highlighted by Pakistan's special envoy for Afghanistan.
Due to the massive influx of refugees, the decline in the standard of living for the citizens of Afghanistan, the rise in insecurity, and the expansion of drug trafficking, Mohammad Sadiq Khan claims that Iran and Pakistan are most impacted by the happenings in Afghanistan.
For many years, Afghan refugees have been housed in Iran and Pakistan. These refugees left the country as a result of unemployment and security concerns.
