Swedish coast guard finds fourth Nord Stream gas pipeline leak


(MENAFN) A fourth Nord Stream gas pipeline leak has reportedly been found, according to the Swedish coast guard. An alleged act of sabotage earlier this week resulted in damage to the critical infrastructure.

At first, it was thought that three pipelines beneath the Baltic Sea had been destroyed, including two strings of Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2.

The Svenska Dagbladet newspaper, nevertheless, was informed on Thursday by Jenny Larsson, a spokesman for the Swedish Coast Guard, that there were really four leaks in the submerged infrastructure. “Two of these four are in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone,” Larsson declared, noting that the other two were located in Denmark.

As a result of the operator reporting a loss of pressure on both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, Danish officials on Monday detected breaches on the pipelines constructed to transport Russian natural gas to the European Union.

Later, according to Danish and Swedish officials, there were many underwater explosions close to the Bornholm island. As a result, Sweden, the United States, and Russia made suggestions that the disclosures could have been the product of an intentional action.
