Russia: gunman murders nine people in school shooting


(MENAFN) As per Russian officials, a gunman killed nine people, including five children, at a school in Russia on Monday before committing suicide.

The reason for the shooting in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurtia region, approximately 970 kilometers (600 miles) east of Moscow, was unknown.

According to the interior ministry's Udmurtia branch, police discovered the gunman's body at the scene. According to Russia's Investigative Committee, the attacker killed nine people before killing himself. According to the report, the victims included five children, two teachers, and two security guards.

In recent years, there have been several school shootings in Russia. In the city of Kazan in May 2021, a teen gunman killed seven children and two adults. In April 2022, an armed man murdered two children and a teacher at a kindergarten in the central Ulyanovsk region before committing suicide.
