MUSCAT, 21st September, 2022 (WAM) -- Saqr Ghobash, Speaker for the Federal National Council (FNC), has highlighted the importance of accelerating parliamentary coordination between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
Ghobash made this statement in a speech, which was delivered on his behalf by Hamad Ahmed Al Rahoumi, First Deputy to the FNC Speaker, during the 16th meeting of heads of Shura and representatives of national assemblies, parliaments and councils of GCC member countries, which was held in Muscat and chaired by Sheikh Khalid Hilal Al Ma'awali, Chairman of Oman's Shura Council.
At the start of the meeting, Sheikh Khalid welcomed the heads of Shura and representatives of national assemblies, parliaments and councils of GCC member countries, and lauded their efforts to pursue the process of cooperation. He also congratulated the leadership and people of Saudi Arabia on the occasion of the country's 92nd National Day, as well as Qatar for its hosting of the 2022 World Cup.
During the meeting, the speakers of GCC legislative authorities discussed the annual report from the 15th meeting of the heads of Shura and representatives of national assemblies, parliaments and councils of GCC member countries, affirming their keenness to encourage further cooperation and support joint GCC action.
The meeting also approved the agenda of the Gulf-European Parliamentary Committee meeting, discussed joint GCC issues, the GCC's cooperation with Latin American parliaments, and submitting final recommendations to the GCC Council summit.
