Moleleki Accuses DC Of Looting State Resources - The Post

MASERU – Alliance of Democrats (AD) leader, Monyane Moleleki, has accused the Democratic Congress (DC) party of looting government coffers to fund its election campaign.

Moleleki was speaking at an election campaign rally in Mpharane constituency in Mohale's Hoek last Sunday. The AD leader spoke a few weeks after the Auditor General revealed that the government could not account for M6.16 billion deposited as cash in its various bank accounts.

Moleleki said the DC was in the habit of taking government resources to fund its election campaigns.

“All they know is to take resources and campaign for the DC, but their service delivery is very poor,” Moleleki said without providing evidence of his allegation.

Despite the DC's shenanigans, Moleleki insisted that his party will romp to victory in Mohale's Hoek including the Mpharane constituency where he was campaigning.

“We will win other (constituencies) which I know, but I should not tell you so that the candidates continue to work hard there,” he said.

He also said the AD will beat many parties to the extent that other leaders, seeing that they have lost, will be admitted at the Mohlomi Mental Hospital. He said the constituency candidate, Thabo Ramatla, has worked hard in Mpharane and Mohale's Hoek at large.

“The entire Mohale's Hoek has seen that he is working hard,” he said, adding that Ramatla never used any state resources to campaign for the AD.

“We are not clowns who stay in government to get free fuel, free vehicles, and money,” he said.

He said it is the DC that should be asked where the M6 billion the Auditor General says is missing has been spent.

“I will tell you where the money is,” Moleleki said.

“The money should be asked from the DC members as they declared when getting into government that their intention was to use the government resources for their political campaigns,” he said.

“That means this is the money that is used to hire ghost employees,” he said.

“It is used to travel with the government vehicles campaigning for the Democratic Congress.”

He complained that the government vehicles registration numbers are normally taken out so that their drivers are able to roam in the streets from Monday to Monday.

“But they fail to repair roads, construct bridges and install electricity,” he said.

He added that the Agriculture Ministry is engulfed in corruption as even higher ranking officers are corrupt.

“People steal fertilizers for themselves and their loved ones and Basotho get nothing,” he said.

He said when the AD was still in the coalition government with the ABC, Basotho National Party and the Reformed Congress of Lesotho“we were expelled for delivering services to the people”.

He also urged the youths to go to the voting stations to vote for the people they want. The DC deputy leader, Home Affairs Minister Motlalentoa Letsosa, said Moleleki should come and ask the DC about the money he says is missing.

“He should come himself and interrogate us,” he said.
