India Categorically Denies Media Reports On Sending Troops To Sri Lanka

Colombo, July 11 (newsin.asia): The High Commission of India in Sri Lanka on Sunday said that it categorically denies speculative reports in sections of the media and the social media about India's sending her troops to Sri Lanka.
These reports and such views are also not in keeping with the position of the government of India, the mission said in a press release.

The Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs of India clearly stated yesterday that India stands with the people of Sri Lanka as they seek to realize their aspirations for prosperity and progress through democratic means and values, established institutions and constitutional framework, the release said.

The story on the alleged Indian military intervention originated in a tweet by the Indian Upper House of parliament member and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Dr Subramanian Swamy, which said that India must give military help to the beleaguered Rajapaksas in Sri Lanka .
Dr . Swamy who is well versed in Sri Lankan politics and a close friend of the Rajapaksa family, asked in a Twitter message how India could allow a mob to overturn a legitimate election.
“Both Gotabaya and Mahinda Rajapaksha were elected in a free election with thumping majority. How can India allow a mob to overturn such a legitimate election? Then no democratic country in our neighbourhood will be safe. If Rajapaksa wants India's military help we must give,“ he tweeted.
