Addressing the graduating students, Al Kaabi urged them to be positive change-makers in society. He stressed that as they look to join the labour market, they should learn from experts and specialists in their field and build successful and solid relationships.
UDST President Dr. Al Naemi said the institution showcases Qatar's diversity with over 70 nationalities enrolled – and an estimated 7,000 alumni network.
“We had the honour of being part of the official establishment of UDST by Amiri Decision No 13 of 2022. This decision brought with it a new journey full of excitement, dedication and commitment to offer the best and strengthen the position that has been set for us as a first applied university in Qatar. We aim to help students self-develop and seek innovation that serves society and achieves sustainability under the Qatar National Vision 2030. The university has developed and actioned strategies in partnership with leading private and public entities, which resulted in the reveal of multiple unique projects and the launch of new programmes that respond to the labour market requirements,” Dr. Al Naemi said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the graduation, Dr. Awni Al Otoom, Dean of the College of Engineering Technology and Industrial Trades at UDST, said graduating this batch was unique because they'll be the first to carry the UDST certificate.
He emphasised the school's commitment to serving the local and regional market with eyes on the international market by providing graduates who will find solutions to sustain the country's economic development.
“This graduation is exceptional because it's the first graduation batch after the Amiri decree of transforming the college into the University of Doha for Science and Technology.
'So those graduates will be graduating from the first applied and technical university in the country, and will be ready for the job market with minimal training because they have been exposed to the knowledge, competencies and skills,” Dr. Awni said.
Aisha Muhammad, a graduating student of Banking and Fintech from the School of Business Management, said learning at UDST was an exciting experience that'll guide her into the evolving financial sector.
“The environment and campus here are great, and I loved being a student here, and I will miss the place. The industry for banking and finance is growing, and it was very exciting to have the courses and learn what the industry holds. The university is more about teaching what the industry is doing. So, it was essential to learn the practical perspective of the industry,” Aisha said.
