EU Can Reach Agreement On Russian Oil Embargo Within One Week

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) French Secretary of State for European Affairs Clément Beaune says the European Union could reach an agreement on a Russian oil embargo, which is currently being blocked by Hungary, 'within a week.'

This was reported by Sud Ouest , according to Ukrinform.

Beaune also announced a phone call scheduled for Tuesday between French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

'I think we can reach a deal in a week, we're working hard on that,' Beaune said.

'We must move fast, and I say this with confidence: there will be the sixth package of European sanctions, they will be very strong, and we will gradually, on schedule, first abandon Russian oil, but also Russian hydrocarbons in general,' he said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on May 9, during a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was briefed in detail about Hungary's position on EU sanctions and energy security, and expressed its intention to strengthen cooperation with regional partners in oil infrastructure development.
