“The land has provided huge space for youth to demonstrate their driving skills under certain safety rules such as registration of the car and safety gear inside the vehicle,” said Al Safran.
He said that competitions for motorists were held in which winners received valuable prizes.“This year motorists from other GCC countries also participated in the competitions.”
He said that the initiative helped greatly in reducing cases of drifting on roads.
“During holy month of Ramadan this year we did not see much cases of drifting on road because most of youths joined the competition at the land designated for motorists' activities at Khor Al Adaid Natural Reserve,” said Al Safran.
He urged youth to use the land provided by the State if they want to demonstrate their driving skills for their safety and others as no accident was recorded at this place so far.
Ministry of Environment and Climate Change represented by the Natural Reserve Department is running awareness campaign to curb violation at natural reserves, meadows and green lands.
“Most of the violations at natural reserves have been made by visitors due to lack of awareness about the laws,” said Al Safran.
He said that Natural Reserve Department is operating 12 natural reserves in the country.“There are two types of natural reserves — fenced and open. Two natural reserves Zakhira and Al Khor Al Adaid are on mixed areas marine and land,” said Al Safran.
Speaking in a Qatar TV programm recently, Al Safran said that the Ministry is running campaign through its social networking sties, Qatar TV, radio and other local media to educate people citizens and expatriate about the importance of natural reserve for diversity and protect the environment.
“Destroying wildlife is among major violations at natural reserves. For example, it is prohibited to enter in green land and meadows especially for grazing for 14 days after rainfall to protect the land from any destruction,” said Al Safran.
He said that a large number of nature lovers especially families visit the meadows and green lands.
“Since vehicles are not allowed inside the meadows visitors can enter the meadows on foot in a way that does not affect wildlife,” said Al Safran.
He said that inspectors from Natural Reserve Department are deployed to educate people about the importance of protecting wildlife at first.“They also record violations and refer the violators to the authorities concerned for further legal action,” said Al Safran.
He said that people can visit the meadows and green lands to enjoy the nature but they are required to cooperate with the Ministry by following the laws to protect wildlife and ecosystem of the country to ensure the sustainability.
