Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has stepped down from his post.

The Deputy Speaker told reporters today that he has informed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena that he will not remain in his post after today.

He had resigned earlier in the month but later decided to continue until the end of April.

Siyambalapitiya today recalled that he had told Parliament that he will remain in the post only until the end of April.

He said that he had not accepted any perks offered by Parliament and had hoped the current crisis in the country will be resolved by the end of April.

However, he says it now seems the crisis will continue to drag. (Colombo Gazette)
