São Paulo – A leading company in the Egyptian agricultural sector, Pyramids for Agro-Industries (PAI), a division of the Misr Pyramids Group, wants to start exporting to Brazil.“We are eager to develop trade relations between our countries,” the company's Exports regional manager Mona Ibrahim told ANBA.

Valencia oranges ready for export

According to the executive, the company stands out for packaging and exporting its own products.“We have our crop areas in Sharqia, Valley of the Kings, and Sinai, where we grow a variety of fruits like oranges, lemons, grapes and pomegranates in Egyptian soil and export them to different regions across the world,” she said.

Another distinguishing feature, according to Ibrahim, are PAI's certificates of quality, sustainability, good practices and food security like Global G.A.P and ISO 22000.

Pyramids plans on exporting mainly Valencia oranges to Brazil, Ibrahim says, that are in high demand. PAI has Valencia oranges in different sizes to export next month already, as well as red and gold onions, Spunta potatoes, watermelons, and grapes. The pomegranate starts being sold in June, so does mango. Sweet potatoes will be sold in July. There are frozen strawberries for immediate delivery, and fresh strawberries start from November.

Now the company exports to 42 countries in five continents, including its main markets of Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sweeden, France, Spain, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Canada, China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, and others. This last season, Pyramids exported oranges, strawberries, sweet potatoes, and watermelons.

The company has pomegranates as its main products

Founded in 2003, Pyramids has always worked growing, packaging and exporting agriculture products. Since then, the company has grown, and it now has three farms in Egypt, where it grows citrus, pomegranates, mangoes and vegetables.

In Sharqia, the annual production capacity is 45,000 tonnes of fruits. The plant features cold rooms and pre-cooling rooms.“PAI has always been among Egypt's leading fresh produce exporters in terms of both quality and volume,” Mona Ibrahim said.

The portfolio of the company includes orange, lemon, tangerine, pomegranate, grapefruit , mango, strawberries, onions, sweet potatoes, artichoke, pepper, chive, carrots, garlic, and others.“We have all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, and we've launched a new line of frozen products,” Ibrahim said.

The Mercosur-Egypt free trade agreement came into force in 2017, and since then the trade balance between the countries has grown exponentially, particularly in tax-free products.
