Brazilian Travel Agents To Visit Tunisia

São Paulo – A group of 45 travel agents will learn more about Tunisia's tourism on-site in May. The famtour, as trips to promote tourist destinations are called, will occur from May 9 to 18, with a one-week stay in the Arab country. A journalist will also participate.

Tunisia: Desert is one of the attractions in the country

“We want to allow travel agents, Flot's customers, to get to know, experience, and fall in love with Tunisia. Those who know the country can sell better,” said José Eduardo Barbosa (pictured above), CEO of Flot, the operator to promote the famtour in partnership with tourism company Gold Experiences.

Professionals from Flot's partner tourism agencies will travel to the Arab country. Operators, such as Flot , are companies that assemble tour packages. Agencies sell them. Some operators also sell to the final customer, which is the case of Flot, although the company's primary focus is as an operator. Gold Experiences will be responsible for the agents' travel in Tunisia, where it operates.

The North African country features lush beaches

The itinerary will include trips to the beach, desert, and places reflecting the culture and history of Tunisia. The Bardo Museum , with its famous collection of Roman mosaics, is on the plans, as is a walk through the alleys of Sidi Bou Said to appreciate the Arab-Moorish architecture, its cafes and shops, and a visit to the mausoleum of Tunisia's first president, Habib Bourguiba.

Agents will also be able to visit the typical underground dwellings of Imazighen, the salt lake of Chott El Jerid, oases with waterfalls and mountains, and the settings of the Star Wars movie shot in Tunisia, among others. Barbosa said one of the program's focuses would be gastronomy, with an olive oil and wine route.“Agents will have the opportunity to taste these products,” he says.

Flot has been selling Tunisia as a destination for 20 years, and Barbosa says they receive customers every year.“However, our bet is the number could be quadrupled with the investment in the famtour ,” said the businessman. The famtour has the support of the Embassy of Tunisia to Brazil, Tunisian National Tourism Organization (ONTT), Lufthansa Airlines, and the Honorary Consul of Tunisia in São Paulo, Rubens Hannun.“We have the support of the government of Tunisia, and we are talking to the Ministry of Tourism to continue the promotion activities,” explained Barbosa.

Flot was founded in 1984 by entrepreneurs José Eduardo Barbosa and Antonio Aulísio. Currently, Tiago Barbosa, who joined the business in place of Aulísio in 2005, runs the company together with Eduardo. The company is headquartered in São Paulo and has 60 professionals. Flot organizes trips worldwide, especially to Europe, South America, the United States, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. Four thousand tailor-made tour packages and trips are offered.
