US penalties impose on Russia to harm world economy; Beijing

(MENAFN) Beijing has stated that US penalties imposed on Russia in response to its invasion on Ukraine do not address any issues and instead harm the world economy, and it has vowed to defend itself if Washington targets Chinese enterprises.

On Thursday, Commerce Ministry spokesperson Gao Feng informed journalists that, “China opposes any form of unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law.”

Further adding, “Economic sanctions not only fail to resolve security issues, but also harm the lives of ordinary people, disrupt global markets, and make the world's already slowing economy even worse.”

Gao's remarks came after White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan warned Beijing that there is going to be "absolutely be consequences" if China assists Russia in circumventing sanctions and restocking the economy's affected areas.
