Government of Mauritius looks forward to celebrating its national day with UAE residents and visitors at expo 2020 with dodo collage draw from 11-13 March and other cultural experiences on 15 March
Expo 2020 Dubai, UAE: The government of Mauritius invites the UAE public to contribute to a larger-than-life dodo collage located in the Mauritius Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, as part of the Mauritian national day celebrations.
Visitors to the pavilion in the Opportunity District at Expo 2020 can make a colourful contribution to a five-square-metre outline of a dodo; a national symbol of Mauritius. Participants are also invited to enter their details for a chance to win a hamper of exclusive and authentic Mauritian products from Ti La Boutik. Meaning small boutique, the shop in the pavilion offers authentic Mauritian delicacies including vanilla products, herbal teas, fruit jams and pastes, banana chips, natural honey, in addition to unique handcrafted ship models. Winner of the draw will be announced during official national day celebrations on 15 March at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Mr. Ken Poonoosamy, Commissioner General for Mauritius Pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai and Chief Executive Officer, Economic Development Board of Mauritius, said:“Being at Expo 2020 Dubai, we have had the privilege of experiencing first-hand the characteristics of the UAE's culture and its deep-rooted customs and traditions. We have observed the endless generosity and warm hospitality values that run through the society at all levels, from the leaders of the nation all the way down to the civilians and residents. On Mauritius national day, we hope to highlight some distinctive attributes of our island, which was once home to the dodo bird, including our exclusive fusion of different cultural influences and the unmatched tolerance we have as a nation for different cultures and religions – a trait I believe we have in common with the UAE.
“Though the last sighting of the dodo bird dates all the way back to 1662, the dodo remains an inherent part of our national identity, serving as a constant reminder of the importance of natural conservation. We are very excited to celebrate Mauritius national day with residents and visitors in Dubai and look forward to showcasing the final result of the community-led dodo art piece”.
The competition will run from 11 to 13 March 2022. The dodo collage draw winner announcement is among a line-up of exciting activities planned on 15 March, including a cultural dance show at the Al Wasl plaza, embodying the rich colours and multicultural musical influences of Mauritius.
The Mauritius Pavilion offers visitors an interactive experience, divided into four key spaces which highlights everything the country has to offer from its exquisite landscape, rich culture and history, to its progressive and futuristic economy, which is reinforcing its well-deserved reputation as a growing investment hub.
