Qatar - QU hosts 9th forum for deans of CBEs at GCC universities

Doha: The College of Business and Economics (CBE) at Qatar University virtually hosted the 9th Forum of the Deans of Colleges of Business of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) under the theme“Partnership for Prosperity”. 

Dr. Hassan Al Derham, President of Qatar University, welcomed the participants and added that Qatar University is keen to develop academic programmes, encourage and support scientific research, as well as provide various services that contribute to the development and economy of society. He stated that QU has developed a five-year strategy 2018-2022, which consists of seven policies. 

Dr. Al Derham said that the university has developed a plan and implementation programmes to achieve the goals and objectives included in these strategies. 

“The results of these strategies were reflected in the university's rankings in research locally and internationally. Eighty researchers from Qatar University were included in the most cited researchers worldwide. Currently the university is working to develop many student services and offer various academic programmes to meet the job market needs as we aim to actively contribute to the achievement of human and social development as well as economic development in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

In his speech on the occasion, Dr. Adam Fadlalla, Acting Dean of College of Business and Economics at Qatar University, said,“This forum highlights important topics relevant to Colleges of Business and Economics in all the universities in the GCC. We have gathered to address gaps, discuss challenges, and achieve goals, and share best practices for the benefit of our students and societies.”

Dr. Adam stressed the importance of the forum as a platform for engaging in training programmes, dealing with leadership issues, and exchanging leadership expertise.

Dr. Muhammad Al Mahri, Director of the Educational Administration of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, praised QU for hosting the forum. He added that the meeting confirms QU's role among Gulf universities. 

Dr. Bassam Al Bassam, Secretary of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Business in Gulf Cooperation Council Universities, spoke about the participants' desire to activate joint Gulf action and the importance of reviewing the challenges that require joint and collective action. Participants listened to the main presentation in the opening session presented by Dr. Abdullah Fetais, Head of the Department of Management and Marketing, presented on the topic 'experience of the College of Business and Economics in preparing leaders. He praised QU for its efforts in preparing Qatari cadres. Fetais indicated that QU provides new faculty members with programmes to develop their teaching, research and leadership capabilities. 

During this forum, best practices and experiences of colleges in preparing leaders and working papers were reviewed. They discussed cooperation in authoring or localizing references in the Arabic language to prepare leaders in different sectors that comply with international quality standards.

They also discussed activating the students' leadership and knowledge role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and adopting scholarships to prepare leaders for several outstanding students, local and developing countries.

They also noted establishing an international journal in business administration (University of Bahrain), and a proposal to create a platform for GCC business students (University of Jeddah).
