Doha: Under its multiple humanitarian operations in Sudan, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is proceeding with the activities of the relief campaign for the victims of flooding.
Recently, QRCS has completed the distribution of food and non-food items to those affected by flooding in White Nile, River Nile, and Khartoum. A total of 2,758 families benefited from these distributions, or 16,548 beneficiaries all over the three states.
In White Nile, 500 food parcels and 250 non-food kits were distributed to 750 families in Umm Galala (a village of Al Salam district) and Gouda (a village of Al Jabalian district). Last autumn, these areas were affected by heavy floods, which destroyed hundreds of homes and displaced many families, mostly farmers and nomads.
QRCS's personnel, together with volunteers of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS), distributed 500 food parcels and 250 non-food kits to 750 families in Al-Bauga district (River Nile) and 200 food parcels and 100 non-food kits to 300 families in Khartoum North district (Khartoum).
Besides, work is in progress to reach out to another 958 families in the latter state, by distributing 720 food parcels and 238 non-food kits.
Sharaf Al-Din Ali Ahmed, Director of Volunteer Development at SRCS's White Nile chapter, and Mandour Tawfiq, Director of SRCS's River Nile office, thanked Qatar for its permanent support to Sudan and valued QRCS's humanitarian role there.
The beneficiaries in the three states praised the much-needed assistance provided by QRCS for the affected people.
Dr. Awadallah Hamdan, head of QRCS's representation office in Sudan, promised to continue to implement relief and development operations for the Sudanese people in various humanitarian sectors.
Having been working in Sudan since 2003, QRCS has numerous projects currently in progress, mainly supporting the voluntary return and stability in Darfur under Qatar's initiative for the development and reconstruction of the region. Other projects include rehabilitation and furnishing of hospitals and health centers, supporting COVID-19 control efforts, and many other nationwide water and sanitation, shelter, health, and food security projects.
