Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) dispersed around $67m to different countries to assist them in their fight against COVID-19.

“From 2020 to November 2021, QFFD dispersed around $67 million across 31 countries including aid to Gavi (The Vaccine Alliance),” said the Government Communications Office (GCO) in a recent tweet.

It added that through development institutions including QFFD, the State of Qatar is committed to allocating substantial efforts to health and humanitarian initiatives across the globe.“QFFD has made it a priority to provide medical and humanitarian aid to those in need around the world throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In partnership with Gavi, QFFD committed $10m in January 2021 to support COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC), a financial mechanism aiming to procure 1.3 billion vaccine doses by the end of 2021, the tweet reads.

It said that QFFD will contribute $4.2m to support the Jordan Health Fund for refugees to fight the spread of COVID-19.

Also, QFFD continues to provide funding for 26 health centres and mobile clinics in Syrian refugees camps as well as the 'Health Care for Pregnant Women' programme for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the tweet reads.

Apart from QFFD channel, Qatar has so far provided medical assistance to over 80 countries in their fight against COVID-19 in the form of aids from Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS), Qatar Charity, Qatar's diplomatic missions abroad etc.

Recently, in the beginning of this month, a shipment of medical assistance sent by Qatar Fund for Development arrived in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

This shipment was sent in order to support the efforts of Nepal to combat the emerging COVID-19 virus pandemic, including 50 ventilators with a load weighing about 475kg.

In November 2021, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed a five-year agreement with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and donated $10m to support Gavi's efforts to enhance equitable and sustainable access to vaccines in lower-income countries.

Through the signed agreement, QFFD will support Gavi to enhance access to vaccines in lower-income countries and will work with the Vaccine Alliance to ensure that 'zero-dose' children – those who are yet to receive a single dose of a basic routine vaccine – get access to immunization services.

Also in November 2021, Qatar Fund for Development sent second shipment of urgent medical shipments to Pakistan. The aid included 3.4 tonnes of medical aid.

In October this year, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) had sent medical aid to Algeria, in support of the efforts of the Algerian to combat the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The medical aid shipment, also consisted 200 ventilators, which were provided by Barzan Holdings Company, affiliated to the Qatar's Ministry of Defence.
