Qatar participates in 14th General Conference of ICESCO

The State of Qatar participated in the14th General conference of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), which was held over two days in Cairo.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Head of Qatar's delegation to the conference, H E Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, valued the keenness of Qatar and ISESCO to implement all activities of interest to them despite the Coronavirus pandemic as an embodiment of the distinguished cooperation and partnership between them in all sectors of the organization over the years.

In his speech, he stressed that Qatar, under the leadership of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is looking forward to strengthening cooperation and partnership with ISESCO in light of the new features of its construction with new and advanced thinking that takes into account the requirements of the next stage in terms of achieving the goals of the sustainable development plan and completing a long process of joint work between the two sides.

Dr. Al Nuaimi touched on the great challenges and thorny issues that need the organization and other international organizations to play a serious role to confront, most notably the spread of hate speech, which he said needs effective steps to address, starting with the family, society, educational and media institutions, affirming the conviction of the State of Qatar and its belief that spreading the culture of hatred and malice is incompatible with all the teachings of the heavenly religions and international charters and norms for human rights.

The conference discussed several topics, most notably the educational stakes in the post-Coronavirus pandemic, the role of space science in achieving sustainable development goals and the report of the Executive Council of the Organization on its work for the 13th and 14th sessions of the General Conference, as well as a report on the organizations activities for the years 2019/2021 and an assessment of its work, the revised vision of the Islamic World Organization for Education, Science and Culture, the approval of the members of the Executive Council, and other topics on the agenda.
