Dutch forces detain fleeing couple from COVID quarantine to Spain through its airport


(MENAFN) According to Dutch officials, Dutch police have detained a couple, allegedly with the most recent Covid-19 strain Omicron, at the airport, attempting to flee to Spain after escaping a Covid-19 quarantine hotel on Monday.

Based on Dutch military forces, also called Marechaussee post on Twitter, forces at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Sunday “arrested a couple this evening who had fled a quarantine hotel.”

It stated, “the arrests took place in a plane that was about to take off,” mentioning that both individuals, Spanish and Portuguese residents, have been transported to the public health authority in the country.

As stated by local media, the couple was amongst 61 travelers that came from South Africa on Nov. 26 and tested positive on coronavirus, as 13 of them had been declared to be infected with the new Covid-19 strain Omicron.
