Sheikha Alya holds meetings with senior UN Officials


(MENAFN- Gulf Times)     HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani held a series of meetings with senior officials of the United Nations. sheikh Alya met with Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund Henrietta Fore and discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan. Her Excellency stressed that the education of girls and children in Afghanistan is a priority for Qatar. Also, Qatar's permanent representative to the UN met with United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, where Qatar's co-operation with UNRWA was discussed. Sheikh Alya underlined Qatar's support for the humanitarian and developmental needs of the Palestinian people and later discussed with the Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Oscar Fernandez-Taranco the latest developments in Afghanistan, emphasising the deep partnership between Qatar and the UN.
Furthermore, Sheikha Alya met with Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Co-ordinator Martin Griffiths, during which she affirmed Qatar's support for the operations of the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and in other regions. Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN also met with the Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Usha Rao-Monari, during which she renewed Qatar's support for the UNDP projects in the Middle East.(QNA)
