Cabinet lauds Amir's speech, opening of UN House


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan yesterday.

Following the meeting, Minister of Municipality and Environment and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaei issued the statement:

At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet applauded the speech by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the opening session of the General Debate of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, in New York on Tuesday, and the clear insights and positions contained in the speech that were characterised by honesty, wisdom and foresightedness towards various regional and international issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause as the central issue, in addition to the positive developments in Libya over the past year, the Yemeni crisis, the Syrian issue, the future of the peace process in Afghanistan, the issue of returning to the nuclear agreement with Iran, as well as addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, combating terrorism and addressing its causes, climate change and cybersecurity. 

The Cabinet also praised the Amir's assertion of the importance of resolving differences between countries through dialogue based on common interests and mutual respect, which was embodied in the Al Ula Declaration issued by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council last January.

The Cabinet welcomed the announcement by the Amir in his speech on the inauguration of the United Nations House in Doha soon, after Doha has become a hub of international multilateral action in the region, and in light of the distinguished relationship between Qatar and the international organization which has been characterized by close cooperation and the establishment of exemplary partnerships in various fields. 

Then, Cabinet was briefed by the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments and efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. The Cabinet affirmed the continuation of work with the procedures and precautionary measures that have been taken in order to combat this pandemic.

The Cabinet approved taking the necessary measures to issue a draft law regulating healthcare services within the country, after it reviewed the recommendations of the Shura Council thereon.

The Cabinet also approved a draft decision of the Minister of the Interior on specifying national address data for making judicial announcements and official notifications.

The Cabinet, through a presentation by the President of the Planning and Statistics Authority, was briefed on the progress made in the implementation of the strategic plans of government agencies for the second quarter (April-June), in which he shed light on the progress of programmes and projects at the overall level of ministries and at the level of each entity, and the most important outputs and progress made in implementing the projects of those plans, their objectives and the most prominent challenges. 

The Prime Minister directed the ministries to work on implementing the appropriate solutions and treatments to meet these challenges, and to cooperate with the Planning and Statistics Authority regarding the follow-up on the implementation of projects.
