(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) New York, Sept. 20 (Petra)-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Monday held a series of bilateral meetings and discussions, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Safadi held a meeting with the United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, who had recently assumed her duties, and congratulated her on assuming her new position.
Safadi said he looked forward to working with his British counterpart in order to strengthen the solid relations and the historical strategic partnership between the two friendly kingdoms.
The two ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the economic, trade, investment and development fields, building on the outcomes of the London Donors Conference held in February 2019.
Both ministers highlighted regional developments, and agreed to continue consultation and coordination regarding them in order to achieve security and stability in the region and serve the common interests of the two friendly countries.
In a separate meeting, Safadi met with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the European Union and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, and they reviewed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the Kingdom and the European Union, and the importance of continuing coordination and joint action to resolve regional crises.
Safadi thanked the European Union for supporting the development process in the Kingdom and in facing the burdens of hosting Syrian refugees.
Safadi pointed out to the launch of negotiations between the Kingdom and the European Union on the Partnership Priorities Agreement, stressing his aspiration to sign the agreement before the end of this year in conjunction with the convening of the Partnership Council between the Kingdom and the European Union.
