Nigeria: Cholera rage leaves more than 2,000 persons dead


(MENAFN) The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said that the death toll from cholera rage in Nigeria since the first month of the year has reached 2,141 amongst over 65,000 suspected cases.

In a most recent update on the cholera outburst reaching Xinhua on Tuesday, the health agency stated an overall of 65,145 suspected cholera infections have been recorded in 23 states and the Federal Captial Territory from Thursday, amongst which there were 2,141 deaths, indicating a case fatality rate of 3.3 percent.

Fresh suspected cases during the week between August 23 and August 29 have dropped to 2,127 from the 3,098 cases logged in the prior week, showed the update.

The update noted: "the national multi-sectoral EOC (Emergency Operations Center) activated at level two continues to coordinate the national response," further saying the NCDC has supported the impacted states through deployment of speedy response crews, deployment of cholera speedy diagnostic kits, etc.
