Sellers going online too to market sheep

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Many barns and livestock owners have turned to social media and mobile applications to sell and market their sheep ahead of Eid al-Adha, it is learnt. They are also using various WhatsApp groups and other means of advertising to reach out to more customers ahead of the occasion, which is considered the peak season for such products.
Most of the sheep advertised are those of Syrian, other Arab and Somali origin, with the livestock owners stressing that this practice is compliant with all relevant standards and conditions for sacrificial sheep, which are free from defects.
Local Arabic daily *Arrayah reports that prices in the online marketplace are similar to those found in the central market.
The retail prices of sheep of Syrian or local varieties range from QR1,200-QR1,700, while other varieties cost QR 1,750-QR1,800.
Sheep of Somali origin costs are available from QR550 a head.
The owners of sheep are also offering customers various options, which include checking and inspecting the sheep before any purchase, keeping the purchased sheep in the barn until the due time for slaughter at no extra cost, and reducing prices and free delivery for large orders of sheep.
