Turkmenistan, Isdb Moot Priority Issues Of Cooperation In Energy Sector

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 20.
Turkmenistan and the Islamic Development bank (IsDB) have discussed
priority issues of cooperation in the energy sector and confirmed
readiness to further strengthen the long-standing cooperation in
other areas, Trend
reports via Turkmenistan's official media source.
According to the inforama, it became known after the meeting
between Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the head of
IsDB Muhammad Al Jasser in Ashgabat.
The parties paid special attention to the diversification of
Turkmenistan's Economy and prospects for cooperation in the energy
sector, where the country has rich natural resources.
Furthermore, the sides stressed the importance of developing
transport and logistics infrastructure, as well as the possibility
of intensifying international transportation through the Caspian
Sea and expanding the capacity of the Turkmenbashi International
Sea Port. In addition, directions of cooperation in the field of
Internet technologies and telecommunications were outlined, as well
as opportunities for activation of IDB contacts with the private
sector and development of small and medium-sized businesses.
The negotiations also focused on projects in the areas of health
care and education. The President emphasized the importance of
promoting public health and increasing life expectancy, noting the
IsDB's contribution to the construction of medical
infrastructure.
The head of state noted that the expansion of international
cooperation with reputable financial institutions plays an
important role in the country's economic development strategy.
To note, Turkmenistan joined the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)
in November 1994.
The IDB Board of Executive Directors approved $369 million in
June 2024 to finance new projects in member countries. As part of
the financing, Turkmenistan received $156 million to build cancer
centers and train medical staff. The project is designed to
increase access to quality cancer services by increasing inpatient
care by 33 percent and improving the quality of treatment for
11,750 patients annually.
