Palestine Pres.: determined to hold elections May 22


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, April 14 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday reiterated determination to hold legislative elections on May 22 in all Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
Abbas, during a phone call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, said he asked the international diplomatic quartet and other countries plus Germany to exercise pressure upon Israel to allow the Palestinians hold elections in occupied Jerusalem."
Palestine News Agency (Wafa) quoted Merkel as saying Germany supported the holding of elections including in East Jerusalem.
Abbas, it said, briefed Merkel about his contacts with the US Administration.
Israel has not answered a request by Palestine to hold elections in East Jerusalem just like it did in previous elections. (end)
