SJC Chairman affirms Qatar's support for enhancing criminal justice


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council, Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Al Hassan Al Mohannadi, has affirmed the State of Qatar's continued commitment to support the United Nations activities to promote the culture and methodology of criminal justice and the right of everyone to a fair trial run by an impartial judicial system as institutions and judges. This came during his participation remotely in the plenary session of the Fourt e e n t h U n i t e d Nations Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in the Japanese city of Kyoto, which was held under the title of judicial integrity is the essence of the rule of law. The State of Qatar had handed over the presidency of the United Nations Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice six years after the convening of the thirteenth conference hosted by the Ministry of Interior in Doha in March 2015. The presidency of the State of Qatar for this conference was considered exceptional as all parties to international legal and judicial cooperation praised it due to the great achievements made during the Qatari presidency, represented by the Ministry of Interior, at the global level, and due to the largest financial, technical and political support in the history of international action provided by the State. The Supreme Judiciary Council had played a prominent role during that period through the initiative of the Global Judicial Integrity Network which its advisory council and its second high-level meeting is currently chaired by Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Al Hassan Al Mohannadi. The Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council highlighted the role of the Global Judicial Integrity Network initiative in achieving the desired goals of the judicial integrity pillar, one of the most important pillars of the implementation program of the Doha Declaration. It has provided the world with a platform for building important capabilities that have reached distant parts of the world with its training programs and specialized technical advice that helps judicial institutions and the world's judges to understand and develop a profession of ethics philosophy in line with the developments that humanity is witnessing with the passage of time. They are the main themes of the Doha Declaration on Judicial Integrity, which was adopted by the largest international judicial cooperation event in Doha during the second high-level conference of the Global Judicial Integrity Network hosted by the Supreme Judiciary Council in Doha in February 2020 and was the first of the Qatari international specialized action in this direction.
