OAPEC Sec. Gen.: Kuwait has an active role in supporting joint Arab action


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) Ali Bin Sabt praised Kuwait's active role and important position in supporting joint Arab action at all levels decades ago, as its path of generosity and tender that is still going on.
In a statement Wednesday, on the occasion of Kuwait national celebrations, bin Sabt said that Kuwait has pioneering contributions and initiatives regionally and internationally in various fields, and in providing help to poor countries that suffer from weakness in their infrastructure and a shortage of energy resources.
Kuwait has a vital and important role in supporting joint Arab projects in the field of energy, he said, including projects to strengthen Arab electrical interconnection networks, natural gas networks, and link transport networks between Arab countries, especially road transport.
Kuwait was one of the founding countries of the OAPEC in January 1968, and it has hosted the permanent headquarters of the organization since its establishment, bin Sabt said.
Kuwait embraces many joint Arab action organizations and institutions on its territory, as it provided them with all the facilities necessary for their work, referring to the great facilities it provided to OAPEC, he added.
It also had a major role in establishing many projects of OAPEC member states, including the Arab Maritime Petroleum Transport Company, which was established in 1972 based in Kuwait, bin Sabt added.
Among these projects also, Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY), established in 1973 and headquartered in Bahrain, the Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP) established in 1974 headquarters in Saudi Arabia, and Arab Petroleum Services Company, established in 1975 and headquarters in Libya.
Kuwait has contributed and still contributes in securing the global demand for oil and working on the stability and balance of the global oil market in various ways, as it is one of the major oil producing and exporting countries in the world due to its large oil reserves, he added.
Bin sabt on behalf of all OAPEC employees, extended congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, government and people on Kuwait national celebrations. (end)
