Growth witnessed in Zambian copper output in 2020

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Feb. 23, Zambia's mines ministry stated that the country, Africa's second-greatest copper, witnessed a rise in the output of the red metal last year in spite of the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year, Zambia manufactured an amount of 882,061.46 tons of copper in comparison with 796,430.77 tons in 2019.

The augmented output is due to growing production by large mining companies in spite of the downbeat impact of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa.

He added in a press briefing that the administration presented several interferences like suspension of a five percent import duty on copper concentrates which led to bolstering of operations.
