The Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday, that it is considering moving its embassy in the occupying country from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem.
"The embassy move will be studied after a request submitted by Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, which he raised during a phone call with his counterpart in the Dominican Republic, Roberto Perez, on Friday," the ministry statement said, according to the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.
The Dominican Republic, located in the eastern part of the island of Hispaniola in the archipelago of the Greater Antilles in the Caribbean Sea, has offices in Jerusalem without any diplomatic status. However, it will be the fourth country to move its embassy if it so decides, to follow in the footsteps of a number of countries that have sided with the occupying power, including Brazil, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Australia.
The United States, Guatemala and Paraguay are the only countries that have opened an embassy in Jerusalem, but Paraguay has returned its embassy to Tel Aviv after three months, so there are currently only two embassies in Jerusalem.
