Covid-19 sickens 322, kills 3 in Bahrain


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MANAMA, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- The Bahraini Ministry of Health said on Sunday that 322 more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) over the last 24 hours.
The fresh virus infections in Bahrain encompass 126 expatriate workers, 192 cases of close contacts and four "imported" infections, the ministry said in a twitter release.
The ministry also confirmed three more fatalities due to the infectious respiraotry illness, bringing the Gulf kingdom's death toll to 161 so far.
In addition, 273 additional patients were cured of the deadly bug, taking the kingdom's overall count of recoveries to 40,549, it added.
Meanwhile, Bahraini health authorities announced that the kingdom would participate in the first global clinical trials for the third phase of a World Health Organization (WHO)-listed potential coronavirus vaccine.
They noted that the vaccine would be tested on 6,000 volunteer citizens and residents in Bahrain. (end)
